Those of you who read the blog on our website will know that we are now the proud owners of Wellground Cool Dude, the alpaca with a personality to match his name! We decided that Cool Dude is such an important addition to our herd that he deserves a page of his own. This page will be updated to record the progress of this new herd sire. Cool Dude arrived at Westhill at the end of July 2009.
Cool Dude was born on 4/7/08 and exhibits a dense, high quality fleece. His mother is EP Cambridge Giselle owned by Wellground Alpaca Stud and a very fine animal she is! Both Giselle's dam and sire are from the renowned Jolimont herd, with her sire being Jolimont Commisario - one of the alpaca greats, sire of many champions. Cool Dude's sire is ARU Cambridge Ice Cool Lad and his grandfather is Arunvale Leigh's Inca Dream. He also has Inca William and Inca Dream (import) in his background.
His family tree boasts many show winners.
Winning Genetics
Cool Dude comes from a family of show winners. His father, Ice Cool Lad previously won the title of Best Huacaya Adult White Male at the SWAG Alpaca Spring Show and his progeny group was also placed. It is also interesting to note the history of solid white cria he throws. Grandsire on his father's side, Inca William, also won in the classes for sire's progeny and Junior White Male in the South of England Show 2007. And, of course, then there is Legend of Spartacus! Of the two progeny registered to EP Cambridge Giselle, one is Legend of Spatacus and the other is our own Cool Dude! Cool Dude's older brother, Legend of Spartacus, has several show wins to his name. The most recent of these was the award of Supreme Champion at the Kelso Show, following on from a first place in the Hope Show of 2008 with his excellent fleece.
Of course, his Grandsire - Commisario - is legendary. He has been described as awesome with supreme Accoyo genetics and the density one dreams of! He is located in Australia and is still one of EP Cambridge's elite studs at over 10 years, producing many Australian show winners. Commisario sired EP Commandante of Cambridge who, in the three shows he attended, was placed first in each. He was the Bath and West Reserve Champion Adult Male only being beaten by Cambridge Navigator. He also sired EP Warcraft and Cambridge The Boss, two of EP Cambridge's top new studs.

He has his fighting teeth!
Investigations in November showed that Cool Dude's fighting teeth had appeared! They were only small but very sharp and will need to be dealt with! The good news is that this shows his testosterone levels are at a good level so he should be raring to work pretty
soon.

Cool Dude has now started his working life! He thoroughly enjoyed his first liaison with Flamenco - and I think she did as well. He will soon be available for outside matings - watch for news on this page.
